š§ UNDERSTANDING YOUR COMPASS
ElizabethFRSA Ā·
The compass in The Isle: Evrima is more than just a way to find North and South. When you press and hold Q to use Scent, your compass can show nearby food, water, zones, nutrients and other useful information.
Learning these icons can make a HUGE difference when you're trying to survive. š¦
š Food Icons
Your compass can also show nearby food.
š CARNIVORE FOOD
The drumstick/turkey-leg icon indicates carnivore food.
This generally points toward meat that can be eaten but may not provide one of your preferred diet nutrients.

š„© TORN MEAT
The torn-meat icon indicates a chunk of meat.
This can come from player-created gore or other available food sources.
ā ļø Always check what you're eating. Some meat can provide little nutritional value, while other types can be dangerous depending on your dinosaur.

ā ļø ROTTEN CORPSE
The rotten-meat icon indicates spoiled/rotten food.
For most dinosaurs, eating rotten meat can cause problems.
Some species have special mechanics that allow them to make use of food that other dinosaurs shouldn't touch.

𦓠CLEAN BONE
The bone icon indicates bone gore/remains.
For most dinosaurs, bones aren't a normal food source and can be unsafe to consume.
Certain dinosaurs, however, can make use of them.
ā ļø Don't assume every food icon is safe just because your scent is pointing toward it.

The leaf icon indicates herbivore food.
It can point you toward edible plants or food that isn't necessarily one of your primary diet nutrients.

š§ WATER
The water droplet points toward a drinkable water source.
This can lead you toward:
- Rivers
- Lakes
- Ponds
- Other freshwater sources
Water is one of the most important things to check whenever you spawn or begin a long journey.

š§ SALT ROCK
Salt rocks can appear as a scent/navigation indicator.
Salt is particularly useful for managing your nutrients and can play an important role in changing which nutrient you need.
So if you're trying to fix your diet, don't ignore those salt rocks!

š³ļø BURROW
Some dinosaurs can detect burrows containing AI prey.
These can provide an alternative food source when there aren't any player corpses around.

ā¬ļø North
The raised point on the compass indicates North.

ā¬ļø South
The lowered point indicates South.

The red icon showing multiple dinosaurs means there is a large concentration of dinosaurs in that direction.
This could mean:
- š¦ A large herd
- š„© A large hunting pack
- āļø Multiple groups fighting
- š¦ A busy gathering of many dinosaurs
The icon doesn't tell you exactly which species are there, so treat it as a warning that there is a lot of dinosaur activity ahead
